Question for the Money Doctors

Question

My 7 year auto loan account was closed, paid in full in good standing with no dings, January 2014. After applying for a pre-approval with Wells Fargo March 2014, I was told the account was dinged for January 2014 and February 2014. I contacted the credit union to remove the dings. They retaliated by removing the 2014 dings and back dinging for every month with 31 days over the entire 7 year history of the loan that I paid on the 29th or 30th day by phone. They reported OK, after resolving disputes of down phone lines (theirs), mis-communication with-in the banks, and other issues beyond my control. I only have proof of one issue. What do I do?

Answer

Online on the credit reporting sites, you should be able to include a response to the negative report. You should also write to the credit union, and ask them to re-evaluate the report. If you don't get any satisfaction from the credit union, file a complaint with National Credit Union Association (NCUA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Federal Trade Commission website has step-by-step guidelines on correcting inaccurate information on your credit report at this address: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0151-disputing-errors-credit-reports
