Question

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR SOMEBODY TO COLLECT SOCIAL SECURITY FROM A DESCEASED LIFE PARTNER WHOM YOU SHARED 27 YEARS IN THE SAME HOUSE MAN AND A WOMAN

Answer

Social Security follows state laws. If your state recognizes common law marriage, then it may be possible to collect benefits from a deceased partner. The survivor would have to provide a statement and statements from two blood relatives of the decedent to prove that there was a common law marriage in existence. There is a form available at Social Security offices "Statement Regarding Marriage/Statement of Marital Relationship" that must be completed.
