Question for the Money Doctors

Question submitted on Mar 20, 2013.

My wife's brother has gotten two credit cards in her name without my consent. How can that affect me in any way? I currently hold a specific Clearance for my job.

Hi, thank you for the question. If understand the circumstances correctly, I don't think it will affect your credit. That is assuming your name and credit aren't on the card as well. For your wife's sake, I would think that she should cancel the credit cards and make sure it doesn't happen again. The way it could potentially affect you is if your brother-in-law runs up a large balance and does't pay it.Then it would go to your wife, since it is in her name.

I hope this helps.
