Question for the Money Doctors

Question submitted on Mar 7, 2020.

Question

I was planning on leasing a new car, but after educating myself on needs and wants, I decided I wanted to save money instead as part of a regular habit. I have a decent reliable vehicle already and can use public transportation. I paid a $500 deposit on a car at the dealership and the dealership does not want to refund. What can I do? Should I call a lawyer?

Answer

If you hired a lawyer, it may cost more than your deposit.

There are consumer protection laws that entitle you to refund.

If you get no help from the owner of the dealership, please contact your local Better Business Bureau.   They can help you get your deposit.

Good luck!
