If both spouses participate in a home based business, is the cap for taking social security benefits combined? (32K) My wife is 65 & is receiving S.S. benefits. my wife and i filed our tax return with turbotax a few months ago. They said we will get no refund nor do we owe any taxes. Do I still need to file? I cannot see paying their fee if no money is involved. help

April of 2016, I rolled over 70k out of my company 401k plan to a Traditional IRA with Edward Jones. I received a 1099r from Fidelity. I input this information into Turbo Tax and my Federal owed amount shot up 20k. "Am I suppose to receive something from EJ showing I didn't pocket the money but rolled it over?"
