My daughter is finishing freshman yr at a school that uses consensus method for aid calculation. We received full tuition for 1st year. But now she is inheriting a 401(k) worth about 225k. She would like to preserve this wealth for possible grad school or future security. How should she take payment of the inheritance to maximize aid from her college, minimize taxes...

I contributed to 403b for many years. As I approach retirement I can see that if tax tables stay as they are (which no one can know), I will be in the same or higher tax bracket than I am in. Early in my 20s, 30s I assumed I'd be in a lower bracket so it made sense, the 403b. However, now, it seems a poor idea (the 403b) if we assume I save the exact same...

In a prior question on this site (10/16/17) you suggested default & repossession as a solution to a seriously underwater auto loan. Negative impact on credit history and financial future was not mentioned in the answer...this seems like really poor advice to me. Am I putting too much weight on the impact of this?

If I pull money out of my HSA investment account to pay for a qualified medical reimbursement, do I also pay capital gains taxes on that money? Thanks!
