Question

My nephews father died and his son is in college. My nephew is 19 can he get some type of surviors benefits while in college. He was never married to his mother. Plus he was married and had 2 children by wife.

Answer

Hello. Social Security Survivor Benefits are available to children who are 18 and under. It does not matter if your nephew is in college. However, there is needs-based financial-aid for college as well as tax credits to help him pay for college. For more information on student financial aid, please visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Good luck!
