Question for the Money Doctors
Question submitted on Dec 16, 2010.
QuestionI am unemployed and have a terrible credit score because I paid bills late! It seems the interview goes well but I am eliminated when the credit check occurs. What can I do to raise it quickly so that I can get employed?
At this point in time, sadly, not much.
I would bring up your situation to the prospective employer as a time you feel comforatable during the interview process. I believe a simple and honest explanaion up front is MUCH better received than letting them discover it on their own. This way they EXPECT it and are not shocked and wondering "what else you are hiding".
Offer to have them monitor your credit if they employ you. After all if they see you are responsible and paying bills that should put their mind at ease. Offer to make it a condition of employment.
