Answer: The three major credit reporting agencies are Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax. You can contact these agencies by phone, by mail, or through their websites and request a copy of your credit report. You will have to provide the credit reporting agency with certain identifying information (i.e., name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth) in order for it to locate your file and send you your credit report. In some circumstances, you can obtain a free copy of your credit report (e.g., if you have been turned down for credit, or if you live in a state in which you are entitled to receive a free credit report from each agency once a year).
