Agent Credentials

Agent Credentials

When choosing a life insurance agent, remember that anyone who sells life insurance must be licensed in the state where he or she practices. Before doing business with an agent, check with your state's insurance regulator to see if any complaints have been filed against him or her. It's also important to check out the agent's credentials. Here are some of the more common ones:

  • CFP: Certified Financial Planner
  • CLU: Chartered Life Underwriter
  • ChFC: Chartered Financial Consultant
  • CPA: Certified Public Accountant
  • PFS: Personal Financial Specialist

The 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy Web site offers general information for managing personal finances and does not recommend specific financial actions.  For financial advice tailored to your situation, please contact an expert such as a CPA or a personal financial advisor.
