Beware of "Credit Repair Clinics"

For a substantial fee, they say that they'll give you a squeaky-clean credit history. But beware of "credit repair clinics" that:

  • Require payment before services are provided
  • Don't tell you what you can legally do yourself, for free
  • Suggest you don't contact the credit bureau yourself
  • Recommend you dispute all information, even accurate information, on your credit report
  • Advise you on how to create a new or alternative credit report
