Here are some items that should probably be on every child's packing list for college:

• Two sets of bedsheets and two pillows
• Towels, bathrobe, sandals for shower, and shower caddy with toiletries
• Hangers for clothes (plastic are best)
• Laundry detergent and stain remover
• Alarm clock
• Small sewing kit and first-aid kit
• Assorted over-the-counter medicines
• Duct tape
• Study lamp with extension cord and extra light bulb
• Dictionary, thesaurus, pens, pencils, and paper
• Photo album (to help with homesickness)
• Address book
• Milk crates (for storage)
• Silverware, plate, and glasses or mugs
• Hot plate (if allowed)
• Camera
• Radio and/or small television (good idea to check with roommate first)
• Laptop computer (if you have one and/or it's required)
• Cleaning supplies (for that first day or two in the new room)
• Any other favorite items
