Question

my husband passed away may,2012.it was so suddenly, that he could not tell me about his life insurance policys that he had.i know he had policys though.i have tried for 1 yr trying to find something, but nothing so far.do you know of any way that I can find out.i have some of the companys name, but not a policy number

Answer

Hi, thank you for the question. If you know the insurance company who holds the life insurance policy, you should be able to contact their customer service and let them walk you through the claim process. You may need your husband's social security number, address of record and a death certificate (and potentially other personal information) for the company to speak with you. If you are a beneficiary, they should talk with you and lead you through the process. If you are unsure which companies your husband utilized, there may be a way to find out. Here is a link to a Consumer Report''s article that discusses lost life insurance policies:

I hope this helps.
