Question

What is the best way to get advice for finacial planning? I had engaged a planner earlier but it soon became obvious that he was more intesreted in selling finacial products like insurance etc.

I live in Nassau County in NY. Could you please refer me to any resources? Also how could I educate myself on this.

The best way to get advice is to look for a fee based planner. I recomend that you use a CPA who also ia a Personal Financial specialist. You can locate one on the AICPA website. Make sure they are also a register investment advisor which you need to ask them. Meet with them and see if you are comfortable and then move forward.
