Question for the Money Doctors

Question submitted on Jun 14, 2012.

Question

My wife and I are currently going through a Short sale on our house. Our Credit Score took a huge hit with the short sale. How long will it take for our Credit score to get back to the 790 it is currently 625. The only debt that we have is credit card debt, which we pay off every month.

Answer

Sorry about your misfortune. It will probably take anywhere between 24-36 months for you to get your good credit score back. You may help your cause by continuing to pay your other obligations on time, this includes current credit cards if you have any - that really helps. Also, if you are able to borrow a small amount from a local bank of credit union and make the regular interest and principal payments. Have patience, your score won't change overnight.
