Question

My daughters father passed away and she receives survivor benefits every month. She is 16 and recently started working. How much can she earn that will not affect her benefits?

Answer

Individuals who receive survivor benefits who are younger than their "full retirement age" are generally able to earn $15,120 in 2013, without forfeiting survivor benefits. It is best to call the Social Security Administration at 800-772-1213, to confirm the impact of your daughter's earnings on her benefits.
