Question for the Money Doctors

Question submitted on Mar 16, 2012.

Question

I have been working in Saudi Arabia for a company that is based in Oregon. I will be close to being out of the country to qualify for the tax exempt. My question is the day you fly out and the day you fly back in to the states, is this counted as 2 days toward total amount of days your allowed?

Answer

I am not a foreign tax expert.  However, according to a colleague of mine that is, to meet the exemption requirement, you have to be out of the country 330 full days out of a12 month period. These must be full days, partial days do not count.  So, typically you cannot count the day of arrival or the day of departure unless you arrive and/or depart at exactly midnight.
