I have 4 children 2 that recieve survur benefits and i have a hearing coming up for disability and ssi for myself.I wanted to know will my disability benefits or ssi be affected because 2 of my children gets survur benefits?

Answer

When you qualify for Social Security disability benefits, your children may also qualify to receive benefits on your record.  The total amount you and your family can receive is about 150 to 180 percent of your disability benefit.Your eligible child can be your biological child, adopted child or stepchild. A dependent grandchild may also qualify. Within your family, each qualified child may receive a monthly payment up to one-half of your full disability amount. That child's survivor benefits will be taken into account in determining if they qualify to receive benefits on your record. You may contact Social Security to get additional information by calling 1-800-772-1213 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Generally, the wait is shorter if you call during the week after Tuesday.
