Question

Can I claim home office use for a room solely used for piano teaching to my students which also includes a computer and printer for invoicing plus a telephone I use to contact my clients?

Answer

Hi. The IRS says you can claim the home office deduction if your space is both used regularly and exclusively for business and it is your principle place of business. It sounds that you have a good case to make on both accounts. That said, the home office deduction that is difficult to defend if you were to be audited by the IRS.
