Hi I have a question about my private insurance disability long term benefits. My benefits were paid for by me 100% with zero participation by my employer, but they did take out the premiums before tax. This small savings seemingly has left me on the hook for thousands in fed income tax, unless I have been filing wrong. Is my disability paid 100% by me?

My son graduated in May. He is 24. He lives at home and is supported by us. he became employed in September and earned approx. $7000. The way I read the 1040 instructions, I cannot claim him as a dependent since he earned over $3900. Is this correct? It doesn't seem logical-who could live on $3900?

I am required to establish an Irrevocable Trust for my mother's funeral expenses. My concern is that these funds appear to be usable at the discretion of the funeral home. What prevents them from misuse and what protection do I have?

I am married and plan to have children several years from now. Can I set up a 529 account (with Vanguard; Nevada plan) today and name myself as beneficiary, only to change the beneficiary to my child once they're born. If so, what is the maximum amount I can contribute to the plan today (as a lump sum in 2014), assuming I'll be filing my 2014 taxes as married filing...
