My father recently passed away. He lives in Illinois, I live in Iowa. He had life insurance policies that are approximately 45,000 to 50,000 in value. Will I have to pay taxes on any monies that I receive from his estate?

My father passed away in 1998. He was a retired veteran of 21 years. My mother never collected social security from him and remarried 10 yrs later. I have a second mortgage that I would like to pay off faster it is high rate of interest. I been putting extra money on the principal and making bi weekly payment. Is there anything else I can do to pay this loan off faster?

I have a debt on credit cards of about 42000 caused by repairs on my 2nd home. I sold that property and do not know if I should pay the debt or invest the money. I've read conflicting information on your site as to whether debt consolidation is wise. One of the Money Doctors suggested Dave Ramsey's debt snowball approach, but that doesn't work if you don't have at least a little extra each month to go toward paying down the debt (which I do not have).
